Sales Skills for Consultants

While consultants are generally comfortable in their area of expertise, frequently their greatest challenge is the selling of themselves and their services.

The External Consulting Interest Group provides a collegial environment with opportunities to network, share best practices, and increase our knowledge of the business and marketing aspects of consulting.

 

Continuing with our focus on Peter Block’s Flawless Consulting model, the attendees of the November shared a wide variety of best practices around the entry and contracting phase ranging from the use of LinkedIn to generate business to contract writing approaches. The January meeting will continue to focus on this first phase through a presentation by Paul Hutchinson on Sales Skills for Consultants.

 

If you are interested in building the revenue of your consulting practice by increasing sales, Paul’s presentation will provide participants with a basic understanding of what sales is and how to create a sales process that supports a successful business. His presentation will cover a step-by-step sales process, discovering leads and information gathering, cold calling, relationship building, discovering client needs and hot buttons, answering objections, and closing the sale. The presentation will conclude with Paul answering any individual attendee questions and unique circumstances. Each person will also receive exercises and reference handouts to build their sales skills and strengthen their ability to sell.

 

Paul R. Hutchinson has over 20 years of corporate and private experience in consulting to a wide range of industries. He has been a consultant to business owners, new entrepreneurs, non-profit and professional associations and other consultants. Mr. Hutchinson specializes in sales strategy, sales training/coaching and sales process improvement especially relevant for professional services providers. A graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce, and on the leadership team of the Massachusetts Bay Organization Development Learning Group (MassBayODLG). Over the past five years, he has provided public and private workshops on sales-related topics and donates his time as an instructor at the Lowell Small Business Assistance Center, and IEEE Chapters. He consistently receives high accolades for his engaging style, active adult learning techniques, and mastery over sales strategies and tactics.For further information, click on Hutchinson Consulting.
