Program Description

Kurt Lewin did groundbreaking training-action-research (as he put it). His methods demonstrated the positive influence of democratic values and behaviors on productivity and morale. Lewin’s approach works with the existing authority structure (not against them or despite them) while leveraging the power of group dynamics and local actionHis methods worked, and there is no good reason we can’t apply them in the present, as the author has done since 1984 and his father before him since the 1950s. That is the thesis of Mr. Crosby’s Lewinian books, "Planned Change" and "Diversity without Dogma," upon which this session will be based.

At the end of the session, participants will:

  • Have a practical understanding of Lewinian social science and its implications for leadership and culture.
  • Have a working knowledge of the action research Lewin conducted to address prejudice and inequality.
  • Be able to adapt and apply Crosby’s framework for DEI education and action (below).
  • Have an integrated theory for facilitating change.
