"Transitioning into Tech"

Technology Community of Practice, Friday, November 6, 2020

Join the next Technology CoP meeting on Friday, November 6, 2020 @ 2:15 - 3:00 PM.

Session Description

Covid-19 has certainly had a big impact on how training is designed and delivered!

However, even pre-pandemic there was beginning to be real a shift to virtual training due to the expectations of the modern learner and the obvious cost efficiencies.

More and more, people involved in training and development are contemplating re-skilling to either improve their ability to deliver live training effectively - or to train in the use of tech authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate to design and deliver high impact self-paced eLearning that can be accessed on demand and other engaging online learning experiences.

The November Tech COP meeting provides an opportunity for GOOD Network members to listen first hand from Kari (Knisely) Word an experienced Instructional Designer - who made the transition from middle school math teacher to ISD.

Kari will specifically address:

  • Brief background - previous roles, change in direction, how Kari went about making the change i.e. retraining, gaining experience etc.
  • Current role - setting up consultancy and new job, getting things set up, applying for jobs with a tech focus.
  • Share best practice for people who maybe looking at transitioning roles from a more traditional instructor led training perspective to a more eLearning approach. Why it is important for you to consider for your own career development.
  • Thoughts and opinions about where training is heading (pandemic or not)
  • Instructional Design best practice.
