Work-Life Integration for Young Women Leaders & Their Managers: Thriving at Work and Home

Cathleen Swody, Ph.D. will share the results of her firm’s research and provide advice for younger women in the workforce and their managers.  LeaderMom is her research with a cross-industry panel of high-performing women leaders who were hand-selected as high-performing senior leaders and engaged parents.  The goal is to shift the conversation from the unhelpful questions, like “Can women have it all?” to questions that bring real insights and practical advice, such as “Based on your experience, what would you recommend to the managers of leader like you?”.

The content of this session will be structured around several findings derived from the LeaderMom series of research studies with lessons for all of us, whether we are parents or not.

For GOOD members and their organizations, this research has the potential to improve the retention of women leaders and the diversity of senior leadership teams by:

  • Providing a more useful storyline for women leaders rather than the "can't have it all" narrative dominating  the media
  • Disseminating 3 teachable keys to keeping women engaged and thriving at work and home
  • Focusing on what better managers do to help keep LeaderMoms engaged at work
  • Offering a forum for LeaderMoms in GOOD members’ organizations to join a larger, national dialogue about what works

LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR GOOD MEMBERS:

  • Recognize how LeaderMoms have found ways to thrive in the lives they have created
  • Examine  the specific skills to which LeaderMoms attribute their success

Speaker Bio

Cathleen Swody is an industrial/ organizational psychologist and Managing Partner at Thrive Leadership with an uncanny ability to turn data and research into meaningful professional growth.  Senior leaders call her when they are not sure whom to hire, how to advance their own or their team’s development, or how to distill insights from reams of data.

She is ferocious in her pursuit of insights, unassuming in her approach and engaging on stage and across the table.  Cathleen has deep experience with clients like Pfizer, ESPN, Citibank, Adobe, MGM Resorts, and The Hartford.  She worked with Leadership Research Institute for 10 years, and as an internal selection expert and research consultant for SBC Communications (now AT&T).  As a consultant and lead researcher, Cathleen designed and delivered development programs incorporating topics such as influence, emotional intelligence, employee engagement, goal setting, and team effectiveness.

Her passion for championing senior-level women in leading meaningful careers and helping organizations retain extraordinary talent inspired her to co-found the LeaderMom Panel, a high-performing cross-industry group of senior leaders and moms who share insights into success.
